Managing projects is not just Prince2

Implementing Prince2 does not mean that projects will be successful. Last week I met an old colleague with whom I worked with at a financial company. We both wondered why projects where more successful there than with the companies in other branches.

Looking at project management it is not just Prince2. It’s a process like manufacturing a car, like financial processes. Banks and Insurance companies manage an IT project just the way they manage an introduction of a new law. And because of years of their experience in implementing business processes, it’s a small step in setting up a complete IT project process.

The basics they use are defined by the OGC. (The OGC developed Prince2 as the standard for managing projects.)

Look at their processes and find out if the processes you are working with are complete. And may be you will be able to find out why your car is build with three wheels?
